Veli Losinj, is a small town situated on the south-east side of the island of Lošinj, at the foot of the hill called Sv. Ivan (eng. St. John). Owing to extraordinary characteristics of island’s climate, Lošinj was, back in 1892, declared a health resort, by a decree of the Ministry of Health of the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, which aristocracy bears a credit for numerous villas and summer houses on the island. Even today, Lošinj is widely known as a health resort especially in healing of pulmonary diseases and allergies; the magical combination of ancient pine forests and healthy air will make this island an ideal place for body and soul rejuvenation.

The last, but not the least, which Lošinj takes pride in is a large group of good dolphins, which inhabit the area of Lošinj-Cres marine zone; Lošinj's dolphins reserve has been founded as the first protected marine area for dolphins on the Mediterranean, which points out the extraordinary clearness of the sea.

And precisely, on such sea bottom, not far from Lošinj, in 1999, an antique statue of a Greek athlete, Apoxiomen, was found lying between two rocks. The statue is 192 cm tall and more than two thousands years old; its discovery was a worldwide sensation. Croatian Apoxiomen is one of seven similar, well-preserved statues in the world, and after overall restoration works and a tour of all around the world, the statue is finally back home, on the island Lošinj
